What is web accessibility?

Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can use the Web with as little discrimination as possible from those without disabilities. Those with disabilities should be able to perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web, and that they can contribute to the Web.

Web accessibility also benefits others, including older people with changing abilities due to aging or even those who simply choose to use a more friendly website because they do not want to strain their eyes reading text that are far too small.

SEO Solution's website is designed to be accessibility-friendly and we are trying not to exclude those with disabilities from enjoying our site.

To check the validation of SEO Solution's site click on the W3C logos on the top right hand corner of this web site.

To validate your website to see if it meets the W3C validation service, go to http://validator.w3.org

Disability Discrimination Act 1995

The UK Disability Discrimination Act 1995 has brought about changes in legislation resulting in the need for businesses to adhere to accessibility issues. Disability discrimination is illegal in the UK and companies could find themselves being sued if their website is not accessible.

Apart from the legal implications, SEO Solution believes that accessibility issues should be tackled for moral issues and business issues.  It is morally correct to include those with disabilities and not to discriminate.  It is a business issue as to whether businesses should exclude potential customers.

Are accessible websites more search engine friendly?

You bet it is.

Accessible websites are designed with "best practices" coding style.  Some of these best practices are painstaking for the web developers but they many of these practices overlap with "white hat" Search Engine Optimisation practices.

Think about the search engines, they have a "disability" too.  They are not humans, they cannot "read" images, they read text, pretty much like a screen reader.

Web text font too small?

Simply go to the top of your browser and click "view" and select "text size" from the drop down menu.  Select the font size that you feel most comfortable reading.  If you are using firefox, simply hold down the "control" key and type "+" to increase the font size and "-" to decrease the font size.

We make it even easier for you by allowing you to click on the icon "A+" at the top right hand corner to increase the font size.  Try it now!
